About “Community”:
This is a contemporary piece I have created about community. It has been on the forefront of my mind lately. So I wanted to discuss more about it. With that I have also been inspired by fashion so I wanted to somehow bring the texture and styling of fashion in a way I can do through my techniques of painting. With the topic of this piece. I wanted to talk about the importance of community. Community is such a big topic of Indigenous peoples. Community is a key foundation to culture. Community is a way we connect, share and learn. But it also is important to creating change and movements. Change is vital we continue to adapt to the changes as a nation. But also an extension of this is the changes that can be seen with youth, climate change, culture, language and the connections we create with non-Indigenous peoples. So I wanted to reflect that community is important. How we need to work together because we all come in different colours, textures, patterns and shades. Let’s all participate within the community and drive to connect with one and another. This is perception of mine has been interpreted by my detail work, but also the jelly fish reflects the foundation of community. But that is also shows that we come in different shades. We illuminate our individuality to bring us all together.
