This piece talks about my journey home and how connecting back to my traditional country meant for me. Growing up I had spent about 17 years away from my traditional country and the NT due to personal reasons. But being back up there I got to feel my mothers land and how important connection to culture, land and family means. This also talks about connecting back to my families and how we shape our Kinship, language, story telling, cultural obligations, family meaning and the importance of culture. I painted the snake because that’s my totem a Milwayi snake (Black headed python) which means a lot to me and the cultural representation it has to me. Whilst the detail work represents family, my traditional country, kinship and learning from families.
